Wild take road woes to Motown
Hockey Betting Lines
12/27/2006 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Minnesota Wild will try to put the longest road losing streak in franchise history to an end tonight when the club skates into Detroit's Joe Louis Arena to take on the formidable Red Wings.
Minnesota has lost nine straight on the road since a 7-6 shootout victory at Nashville on November 16 and is a woeful 4-13-1 away from home this season. The Wild's road failures continued on Tuesday, as Toronto's Jeff O'Neill scored with 2:18 remaining to lift the Maple Leafs to a 4-3 win over Minnesota at the Air Canada Centre.
The Wild's Brian Rolston tied the contest at 3-3 with a power-play goal midway through the third period, while Kurtis Foster and Wes Walz also lit the lamp in the losing effort. Goaltender Manny Fernandez finished with 32 saves for Minnesota.
Tonight's showdown marks the third meeting between these teams in less than a week. The Red Wings and Wild played a home-and-home series last Friday and Saturday, with Detroit earning a 3-1 decision in the Motor City and Minnesota coming through with a 3-2 overtime triumph at the Xcel Energy Center the following night.
The Red Wings haven't had a game since Saturday's defeat, in which Pierre-Marc Bouchard beat Chris Osgood on a breakaway 45 seconds into the extra session to give the Wild the win.
Kris Draper and Tomas Holmstrom had the goals for Detroit, which had won four of five coming in. Osgood stopped 32 of 35 shots while giving No. 1 goaltender Dominik Hasek a night off.
Fernandez recorded 30 saves for Minnesota on Saturday.
Detroit had recorded four consecutive victories over the Wild prior to that defeat and is 8-2-2 (two ties) in the last 12 matchups between the clubs. Minnesota is also just 2-7-1 (one tie) in its last 10 visits to Joe Louis Arena.
Hasek has achieved great individual success when facing the Wild as well. The veteran netminder is 6-0-2 (two ties) with a 1.10 goals against average lifetime versus Minnesota.
